I have had this idea floating around in my head to make a wolf woodcut with different species of dogs within their fur for awhile. I think it is amazing that humans figured out how to breed dogs into animals so unrecognizable from their former selves (think wolf to pug, and no offense to pugs, I love them they are just 1/10th of the size, have short fur, a squished face and a curly tail.)
The flowers in the background are also named after canines. Lupins which are named after wolves because they were thought to "wolf" up nutrients when actually they do the opposite, they are in the legume family and fix nitrogen in the soil making it more fertile. And the dog rose, which is a kind of wild looking rose. Roses are a plant that has been cultivated to look very much unlike its original ancestors as well.
