The title of this piece “Seahorse Latitudes” refers to the location of the Sargasso sea where this species of seahorse resides, the lined seahorse. Back in the day when humans were first seafaring, this location was called the “horse latitudes” because the weather was so calm, boats would often stall and be stuck for days or weeks or months. It is thought that horses were sacrificed to conserve supplies and water on board. Fodder for the seahorses? Probably not...
