Opossum, flying squirrel orchid and swallowtail under UV light Woodcut

"We Glow Pink" is fun piece with somewhat psychedelic colors due to how pigments change when exposed to UV light. Opossums glow pink, flying squirrels glow pink and blue and some mushrooms and other fungus glow all shades of green to purple and scorpions glow an eerie green.

Nature is so full of surprises. And now you have a fun thing to do while frolicking in the woods at night. Bring a UV flashlight (just don't look straight into it...it can damage your eyes, and if you really get into UV spotting, eye protection is recommended.) 

Once long ago I went on a trip to the Arizona desert and we had UV flashlights. I loved seeing all the scorpions glowing, and it gave me an idea where to NOT set up camp. This piece features animals and plants that can be found in Texas, though scorpions living on a fungus filled log is an artistic stretch. The orchids are a rare plant called the Chapman's Fringed Orchid, butterflies are zebra swallowtails and they are clustered around a Post Oak tree.
