Luna moths utilize a few host plants that their caterpillars live on. Birch trees are one of them. Isn't it just the best pairing? The green moths with the white and grey barked trees? I had to make a woodcut about it.
One interesting fact about Luna moths is they do not have mouths. While caterpillars whole job is to eat to store enough energy to turn into slime and then rearrange it's DNA into a moth, the moths only job is to mate. It lives just a few weeks. So if you see one, consider yourself lucky.
(The flower in the photo is a bluebell from my garden.)
