Cats were brought to Australia by the first European settlers. They are extremely dangerous to small native marsupials because they have voracious appetites and strong hunting capabilities.
The numbat is particularly plagued by feral cats because not only are they a small marsupial, they hunt during the day instead of at night, making them an easy target. Our pet kitties can still be wild beasts.
