Coral bleaching happens usually when the water is too warm and the coral expels all of its algae which turns the coral completely white (algae is responsible for the beautiful colors of coral that you see in a healthy reef.) Corals can survive a bleaching event but they are stressed out and susceptible to illness (much like many other living things.)
I wanted to portray the white coral with a very colorful interesting fish called a clown triggerfish. Many fish are dependent on coral for hiding places and to raise their young. These fish actually will lock themselves into a piece of coral when a predator is lurking. So, coral is very important to the species. I don't want to imagine a sea without brightly colored corals and I hope that we as humans can do something to save our reefs.
