the nile perch has decimated chiclid populations in african lakes. they are responsible for the loss of over 200 species of haplochromine chiclids. they were introduced as a food source for african people who live near the lakes, but, the fish processing industry is booming, and feeding china and japan has raised the price of the fish flesh so high, people in the area can no longer afford it.
