The Nile Perch has decimated chiclid populations in African lakes. These "leviathans" as they are often called because of their enormous size, are responsible for the loss of over 200 species of haplochromine chiclids.

Nile Perch were introduced as a food source for people who live near the lakes, but, the fish processing industry is booming, and feeding China and Japan has raised the price of the fish flesh SO HIGH, people in the area can no longer afford it. Stories of people picking from the scraps thrown out by processing plants are well documented.
