| While I was in Newfoundland, I wanted to learn more about environmental issues with the state. One surprising issue, (since NL is an island) is that fishing is slim picking with an unreliable future. People who use to make a living as a fisherman are unable to do so now because there are so few fish in the sea. And, there has been a moratorium on cod fishing for ten years. 2006 was the first year you could catch a cod and keep it. Cod used to be the mainstay of Newfoundland fishers. Many small villages whose economies were based on fishing are suffering, it is harder to keep people in small towns if there are no jobs. Many folks are flocking to the cities and abandoning whole villages. color-reduction woodcut image size 19” x 23.75” edition size 8 $700 unframed « click here to buy this newfie woodcut » |
