I had a conversation with Michael at an art festival in Virginia about Dragon Boats, Global Warming and Cuttlefish that made my day. So, when we spoke about doing a commission, I said "yes please." His son studies these squishy sea swimmers and he wanted a special woodcut. Squid, Octopi, Nautilus and Cuttlefish are all cephalopods, making them cousins, hence the title and the subjects.

One particularly nice visual moment in this piece is the baby squid in the background.The narrator on a Nova special about cephalopods mentioned that baby squid "are born like little white stars" which inspired the little squiggly guys in the background.

It makes such a difference having good clients!
